Karhi or Kadhi is simple one of a kind curry. It is prepared with yogurt and gram flour and finished with gram flour dumplings. It tastes best with steamed rice.
Yogurt Karhi (Kadhi) Ingredients
Yogurt ½ kg (add some lemon juice to give it a more sour taste)
Gram flour ½ cup
Red chilli powder 1 tbsp
Turmeric ½ tsp
Ginger and garlic 1 tbsp (paste)
Lemon 2
Salt to taste
Green chillies 4
Fresh coriander 1 bunch (finely sliced)
Curry leaf 6
Onion 1 (finely sliced)
Water 4 cups
For Tempering:
Whole coriander 1 tsp (roasted)
White cumin 1 tsp
Fenugreek seeds 6
Garlic cloves 4 (peeled and finely chopped)
Red chilies 6 (whole)
Curry leaf 4
Oil 1 cup
For Fritters:
Gram flour 1 cup
Carbonated soda ½ tsp
Salt to taste
Red chillies 3 (finely cut)
Onion 1 (finely chopped)
Oil for frying
Yogurt Karhi (Kadhi) Cooking Directions
Mix yogurt, red chilli powder, fresh coriander, gram flour, water, ginger and garlic in a pan.
Then add onion, green chilli and curry leaf. Cook well.
Add salt after ten minutes.
When chillies become tender then turn down the flame to low.
For Fritters:Mix gram flour, carbonate soda, salt, red chillies and onion for the fritters.
Now heat oil in a pan and fry fritters in it.
When golden take out on absorbent paper to cool slightly.
After 10 to 15 minutes add to karhi.
For Tempering:Mix whole coriander, white cumin, fenugreek seeds, garlic cloves, red chillies and curry leaf.
Heat oil in a pan and put tempering mixture.
When golden, add to karhi.
Serve this delicious yogurt karhi with plain rice.
