Being the vegetarians, Gujraties have come up with a whole range of innovative lentils recipes. Dal Dhokli, is lentils cooked with chapati pieces in it.
Dal Dhokli Ingredients
- Split black lentils (Tur dal) 1 cup
- Cumin seeds 1 tsp
- Cloves of garlic 5
- Asafoetida A pinch
- Cocums 4
- Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
- Salt to taste
- Chili powder 1 tsp
- Green coriander 1 bunch
- For Dhoki:
- Whole grain flour 1 cup
- Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
- Chili powder 1/2 tsp
- Salt
- Asafoetida a pinch
- Oil a little
Dal Dhokli Cooking Directions

Boil lentils in a vessel.

Heat 1 tbsp ghee, add cumin seeds, garlic, asafoetida and boiled lentils.

Add cocum and turmeric powder and add salt to taste.

Sprinkle coriander leaves.

Mix flour, salt, turmeric and chili powder, asaofetida and a little oil and make a dough with water.

Knead well and roll out like chappati.

Cut into diamonds or square with knife and put them into the boiling lentils.

When all the flour pieces are put, let the lentils boil for 25 minutes on low flame.

Stir occasionally. Serve hot.
